Indulge Me Box Shop

As I mentioned in my previous months post about Indulge Me Box, I had a small product issue and I contacted the company about it. Indulge Me Box has a points system in their new online shop, where you can earn points for what you spend. I received some points in compensation for the mishap, and I decided to try out some new products. Look on below to see what I bought.

All descriptions and ingredient lists are sourced from the product site.

Chocolate Mousse Body Lotion

Enjoy a very rich chocolate aroma, with a hint of hazelnut and cream smells good enough to eat!

This all natural lotion is the perfect blend of superior moisturizing oils and butters, like Shea Butter and Coconut Oil, which are packed with anti oxidants and vitamins to help keep your skin youthful and hydrated naturally! This rich lotion melts into your skin quickly, leaving your body nourished and feeling silky smooth.

INGREDIENTS:
Water, Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) Butter, Vegetable Emulsifying Wax, Palm Stearic Acid, Coco nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Macadamia integrifolia (Macadamia) Nut Oil, Olea
europaea (Olive) Oil, Prunus dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Vitis vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Tocopheral Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl, and Fragrance

No sulfates, parabens, phthalates or petrochemicals

Oh my goodness! This smells so chocolate-y! I almost want to give it a taste to see if it tastes as good as it smells. (Not that I would.) I’ve been using this lotion since receiving it and I only have good things to say. It moisturizes well, smells great and doesn’t leave my skin greasy. This is definitely a winner. I’m also finding that a little goes a long way.

I also (out of curiosity, of course), ran the ingredients through cosdna. The only slight red flag was coconut oil, but I have no issues with that. Plus, since this lotion is free of many harmful ingredients. (Bonus!)

Vanilla Frappe Organic Body Lotion

Vanilla Frappe Body Lotion captures the aroma of sweet vanilla ice cream. A yummy, almost good enough to eat fragrance!

No sulfates, parabens, phthalates or petrochemicals

I haven’t tried this second one yet, but it smells so, so good! I am determined to save it and use up my chocolate one first. Once again, no major red flags.

While I got these creams through Indulge Me Box, and a coupon, they are actually from a really cool Etsy store called Fresh Cream. They have Lemon Meringue and Coconut Cream in addition to the Chocolate Mousse and the Vanilla Frappe that I’ve mentioned in this post. Definitely a shop worth checking out! I’ve also tried their tinted lip balms (So nice!)

So, there you have it, my last post of anything Indulge Me Box related.

Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

Cheers,
Kristen

But we would really want to thank you for all your support. We were very thankful and grateful to have you as a subscriber.

As we are not shipping subscription boxes but we still continue our operations and will just provide gift boxes.

You will receive any balance you have on your subscription account within a week’s time. We are sorry to let you go as a subscriber.

Best,

Indulge Me Box team

I will post more information if and when I receive it.

February Indulge Me Box

My Indulge Me Box came in the mail. For  a recap from my previous post on this company,

Cost: 20$ a month, 55$ a quarter, 110$ bi-annually or 220$ for the year with 5$ shipping in Canada (The shipping is new)

The site says that it is a mix of make up, skin care, accessories and lifestyle items. Starting this month, all subscribers have to pay 5$ shipping on top of the 20$ a month (or whatever it may be according to your plan).  This box is the last month that follows the previous box format. From here on out it will be 3-4 items  focusing on natural skincare, cosmetics and bonus lifestyle items deliver at your doorstep.Or, in my case, to my PO box.

The contents of this box were as follows:

  • Aloe Infused Socks by Upper Canada
  • Elbow Grease (Relaxing Solid Lotion Bar)
  • To Go Spa Eyes in Coconut
  • Poppy and Elle hair ties
  • Scented Bath Fizzle

Screenshot 2015-02-06 13.58.00

This month didn’t come with a content card, so I  am relying heavily on the internet for product information.

2015-02-06 12.34.11

1. Aloe Infused Socks by Upper Canada

Soften and smooth feet from nourishing Aloe Vera while indulging in super-soft comfort. For best results, use with your favorite Upper Canada lotion for the ultimate moisture. One size fits most.

I received the pink and white striped Aloe socks, but there was apparently a bit of variety in what you could received. I put these on almost immediately after taking photos as I love fuzzy socks.  The care instructions tell me some pretty specific wash instructions about washing in cold water, tumbling dry and getting rid of them after 20-25 washes.  Silly socks. That’s just not how I roll. I’ll likely just wash them however and get rid of them when they start getting dingy. And, if you can see it, yes there is something on the socks… but that will be explained further on into my post.

Value: 7$

2. Elbow Grease (Relaxing Solid Lotion Bar)

This is a lotion bar made with cocoa butter, shea butter, beeswax, coconut oil, lavendar oil and peppermint oil. It is from an Etsy shop called Little Reds Bare Balms.  From the Etsy shop, the directions to use are as follows: Either warm the bar up in your hands and apply all over. Or rub to bar directly onto the skin for a relaxing massage. Be sure to store in a cool dry place. Sometimes I like to pop one in the fridge before I use it to add a nice cool feeling to my skin.

I find that this smells like lemons. Which is rather bizarre considering that there is nothing lemon-y in the ingredient list. Once I opened it, I could smell more mint flavor. It’s very luxurious feeling. I like that this comes from a small Etsy company that I would have never discovered otherwise. Another cool thing about this is that it is:

-Small batch, handmade to order.
-100% Natural, working towards being fully Organic.
-Vegetarian, working towards becoming fully Vegan
-Cruelty Free
-Phthalate Free
-Sulfate Free
-Paraben Free
-Petroleum Free
-Free of synthetic fragrances, flavours and dyes.
-Free of anything I can’t pronounce

So it’s fairly natural and good for you, which I can appreciate and the company is based out of Canada. Both are great things.

Value: 3,50$

2015-02-06 12.35.12

3. To Go Spa Eyes in Coconut

From the To Go Spa website: We added Coconut Extract and Allantoin for an SUPER DUPER moisturizing experience and with the gentle aroma of Coconut you will be transported on your very own Tropical Staycation!  And as always.. No Parabens, No Dyes.

I actually tried this out shortly after opening my box. They are a gel like material, and boy are they slippery! I had to be laying down flat or they were sliding down my face.  I like that they are three to a pack because I get to try them out more than once. I took some before and after eye photos to see if there are some changes and I will do that with the next ones too. These are worth further investigation in my opinion.

Value: 10-12,50$
2015-02-06 12.35.01

4. Poppy and Elle hair ties

These are elastic hair ties and came in a pack of three. These are from another Etsy shop called Poppy and Elle. From their website: Poppy and Elle Hair Ties are prettier than generic drugstore elastics and work just as well. Even more, they don’t leave dents or damage hair. Wear them as an everyday accessory, while exercising, or for a special occasion. Unlike most brands of wide-banded elastic hair ties, Poppy and Elle’s are heat sealed to prevent fraying over time.

These aren’t horrible, but they’re sort of a meh item for me. I generally just buy cheap hair ties since I lose them so, so easily.  I will use these, even though they’re a bit loose. I have really thick hair, and these only loop around twice where I would have liked to have seen them go around three times.

Value: Roughly 5.30$

2015-02-06 12.35.32

5. Scented Bath Fizzie in Orange Frosty

This is a Bath fizzie that is orange scented. It will color the bath water a nice orange color. It is also from Upper Canada.

Well, we have reached the item that is a point of contention for me. I will use this, but for now, read on to see why I’m not totally pleased.

Value: 1,20$

If you look closely, you can see that the packaging has holes in it.  Well, because of this, there is a fine powder all through my box and all in the products. Some of the products just had powder on the outside, some, like the eye patches, had powder all through the box too.

2015-02-06 12.35.39

You can see the orange-y powder on the blue tissue paper very easily. It feels very gritty and has made quite the mess.

2015-02-06 12.45.29

I made the mistake of pulling the socks out around my laptop before realizing they were coated in powder. And now so is my laptop. I was/am less than impressed. Especially since I had just cleaned it.

I’ve emailed about this using a form on the indulge me box website and I will update this post when I hear back.

EDIT: I heard back from Indulge Me Box customer service very quickly and they were great to work with me over my concerns. It was mentioned that it was the lack of cushioning that caused this issue and that it will be rectified for next months’ box. Their customer service was awesome in this case and I look forward to dealing with them in the future.

Overall:

I paid 25$ for this box, with the new shipping charges factored in.   I received a value of about 27$, which isn’t stellar in the subscription box world. I’m honestly on the fence with this subscription right now. This is the third month I’ve been subscribed and I love supporting a Canadian company. But… I haven’t been totally impressed with the last two boxes. I think I may stick around for the next box simply to witness first hand the changes to the new style, but after that, I am not at all sure.

Did you get this box? What did you think?

Cheers!

Kristen

January Indulge Me Box

My Indulge Me Box came in the mail. For  a recap from my previous post on this company,

Cost: 20$ a month, 55$ a quarter, 110$ bi-annually or 220$ for the year with 5$ shipping in Canada (The shipping is new)

The site says that it is a mix of make up, skin care, accessories and lifestyle items. Starting this month, all subscribers have to pay 5$ shipping on top of the 20$ a month (or whatever it may be according to your plan).  I saw many spoilers for this month, so I am interested to see if it lived up to all of the hype.

The contents of this box were as follows:

  • Pretty Tea (assorted flavors, I got Maple Walnuts)
  • Fresh Cream Tinted Lip Balm
  • Naiad Soap Arts Sugar Scrub (Assorted scents, I got Raspberry Bellini)
  • Karma Hoop Earrings
  • Braid String with Feather
  • Indie Beauty Shop Green & White detox facial mask

1. Pretty Tea in Maple Walnut (3.50$ for 25grams)

It’s winter time and the only thing we want to do is get cozy, watch our favorite movie and drink a cup of hot tea. Pretty tea us the perfect tea for that. Their tea ensures the satisfaction of your tastebuds- from the pureness of the High Mountain green tea to their warm spicy teas.

I received the Maple Walnut flavor from Pretty Tea.  This is a company out of Quebec and they seem to have quite the collection of tea flavors. This was the first thing I opened when I got my box. While I’m not a big tea person, (I sort of consider it dirty water. Sorry tea fans) it does intrigue me. I put 1 tsp in a tea bag for loose tea and tried this out. I found it had a strong green tea taste. When dry, I could smell the maple which I thought was nice. I have rehomed this tea at a friends who actually loves tea.

2. Fresh Cream Tinted Lip Balm in Cherry Tint (3,50$)

Fresh Cream Tinted Lip Balm is ultimate feminine lip balm is truly rich and creamy, made of the finest ingredients renown for their moisturizing and healing qualities, such as olive oil, cocoa butter, and coconut oil. Every lip balm has a bit of tint and is freshly made just two weeks before shipping.

I actually like this tinted lip balm. It has a darker color but doesn’t seem to dark for me to wear on a daily basis. I don’t find it smells like cherries, but then again, I’m not sure if cherry was referring to the color or the smell.

PhotoGrid_1420505841206

3. Naiad Soap Arts Sugar Scrub in Raspberry Bellini (6,57$ for 2 oz)

Yumm! That’s the first thought that comes to mind when we open this sugar scrubs’ jar. Their sugar whipped soap is a convenient scrub and soap in one! Fine sugar gently polishes and softens skin, with tons of bubbly later and skin loving moisturizers. Use every day and make your skin happy.

Hands down, this is my favorite part of the box. I love the smell of this scrub! It’s fantastic! I’m very glad I got a smell that I enjoy.

PhotoGrid_1420506060623

4. Karma Hoop Earrings (12$)

These beautiful hoop earrings are semi handmade by the people at Karma boutique which is a NY based family run accessory shop. These are lead compliant earrings with approx. 2.5″ inch drop.

Pretty earrings? Check. My style? Absolutely not. These are definitely not anything that I would wear, but these were rehomed with a friend who wears things like this constantly.  It’s not clear on the picture, but the card actually says that these are from the “2007 collection.” So either they’ve been sitting around for a few years, or it’s a collection based off of designs from that year. Either way, not for me.

PhotoGrid_1420506095967

5. Braid String with Feather (8$)

Try something new this year with this lightly feathered braid string. This can be used many ways from a trendy hair band to a beautiful hair accessory.

Well, I’m not sure that this is worth 8$, but it’s ok. I’m not loving the feathers, but I do like the colors of the braid string. I can see myself possibly wearing this around the house.

PhotoGrid_1420506139994

 6. Indie Beauty Shop Green & White detox facial mask (1$)

We wanted to fully indulge you this month so we decided to add this detox mask from an Indie shop in Toronto. This mask has capability to deep clean the skin. So start a new year with new refreshed skin. This mask can be used twice.

This is actually another exciting item for me. Which is a bit depressing since its’ value is very low. It’s a mask that you mix with water, put on your face and wash off. It also has more than one use, which is great in my books.

PhotoGrid_1420502775788

Overall:

I paid 20$ for this box, but the price will be going up to 25$ from here on out.  The calculated value for this box is 34.57$, but I feel like the accessories were grossly over valued. While I’m not wowed, I am going to give it one more box. If I’m not impressed, then I believe I will be putting my box subscription budget elsewhere. There are also changes coming to Indulge Me Box. The owner sent out an email this week saying that the box is likely changing to Indulge Me Box brand ethical skin and makeup products. These products would be full sized as opposed to deluxe sample sized.

I’m a bit sad that the price will be going up a further 5$ a month, making it 25$ with shipping per month. I’ve already paid for my January box and I think I may be making a decision on whether or not to continue once I see that box, and before I pay for the February one.

But, I will say that there have been two spoilers so far for the next box, some tea from Pretty Tea and a scrub from Naiad Soap Arts.

December Indulge Me Box

My Indulge Me Box came in the mail today. For  a recap from my previous post on this company,

Cost: 20$ a month, 55$ a quarter, 110$ bi-annually or 220$ for the year… with FREE SHIPPING within Canada

The site says that it is a mix of make up, skin care, accessories and lifestyle items. I love that this is a Canadian based company out of Montréal. It was the spoiler for the December box that made me want to subscribe. That scarf would work well for myself, or possibly as a Christmas gift.

2014-12-08 17.05.55

The contents of this box were as follows:

  • Bizou scarf (value: 25.90$)
  • Yankee Candle in Gingerbread (value: 1,25$)
  • L’Occitane en provence in Shea (value: 12$)
  • Gift wrap (value: 1$)
  • Trend Trunk mystery value card (value: 5$)

1. Bizou Scarf

This was actually the same scarf that was in the promo for December. It’s soft, fluffy and warm and will definitely be used. While it’s not something I’d necessarily buy for myself, I do like it.

2014-12-08 17.04.00

2. Yankee Candle in Gingerbread

2014-12-08 17.03.25This candle smells so good! I can’t wait to start burning it. The minute I opened the box, I could smell something festive, and it was this candle.

3. Occitane en provence hand cream (shea)

2014-12-08 17.01.53I’ve tried products from Occitane before and they are very rich and do their job well. It’s not oily and absorbs fairly quickly. I think I may end up passing this on to someone else for Christmas, but it’s a great product.

4. Gift Wrap

2014-12-08 17.02.43

Many bloggers seem to be very “meh” on receiving this type of product, and I can’t say I blame them. I received 5 mini gift boxes and some snowman and penguin wrapping paper. I’m not sure what I can put in the boxes, but I will be holding onto those until such a time.

5. Trend Trunk Mystery Card

I didn’t bother taking a picture of this one. It’s a mystery code to the trend trunk website. I’ve never used that website and likely never will. I did, however, check the value of this card and it’s a measly 5$.

Overall:

I am impressed with the scarf, the hand cream and the candle smell, but the gift wrap and the trend trunk cards are a bust for me. I will say that I still definitely got my moneys worth with this box but that I had hoped for more. I’ll have another box coming in January, and will re-evaluate what I think then. Without the Trend Trunk card, I received a value of 40$ and I only paid 20$. And the shipping was free.

New Box Ordered! Indulge Me Box

The box: Indulge Me
Cost: 20$ a month, 55$ a quarter, 110$ bi-annually or 220$ for the year… with FREE SHIPPING within Canada

The site says that it is a mix of make up, skin care, accessories and lifestyle items. I love that this is a Canadian based company out of Montréal. It was the spoiler for the December box that made me want to subscribe. That scarf would work well for myself, or possibly as a Christmas gift.

slide_1_alt.jpg

I discovered this box off of a Canadian blogger, cdnboxaddict. This was actually the blog that started my slow descent into the world of sub boxes because I didn’t know that this type of thing existed for Canadians.

This will be the last box I am ordering for awhile… unless a super great deal comes along. I’ve successfully maxed out my budget for this month. (Especially with the holidays just around the corner.)

Cheers!
