Secret Clinical Strength

Secret Clinical Strength in the clear gel is one of the latest deodorants that I have had the opportunity to try through Bzzagent. ( A super cool website that lets you try things for free in exchange for reviews.) Secret Clinical boasts 4X Stress Sweat Protection, meaning it’ll work when it really counts.  This product has ingredients that adapt to your body and helps better deal with the changes in body temperature.

One of the hardest things for me in relation to this deodorant was remembering to put it on at night. I’m usually one to put it on in the morning and it was ridiculously hard to break myself of that habit. It seems like something so simple, but it’s a lot harder than I had anticipated.

I found that it offered great odor and wetness protection. I sweat a fair bit usually, so it’s nice to find an antiperspirant that actually works. I am used to products that say antiperspirant, but that don’t actually deliver on that claim. In this case, I found that it actually WAS an antiperspirant.

One thing that wasn’t necessarily advertised, but that is good to know is that it didn’t seem to rub off on my clothing and leave those gross white marks. As someone who likes dark clothing, this is pretty important. I hate getting dressed and then looking down to see white marks on my shirt or pants.

I’ve actually just run out of this product and was shopping around to see about finding a good deal on this. It is a bit more on the pricey side, about 8$, but it DOES work. If great protection matters more than price, this could be the best bet for you.

The Super Sizer Mascara by Covergirl

The Super Sizer Mascara by Lashblast  makes your lashes full of volume. I had been given the opportunity to try this out thanks to a lovely bzz campaign over on bzzagent, and it’s definitely opened up my eyes (no pun intended) as to how huge my already long eyelashes can look.

This mascara is a bit different than your traditional mascara due to the brush. Unlike the normal brush, it’s narrow with short bristles. It’s meant to be used by starting it at your lashline and pulling it from root to tip while rotating the wand as you go. This definitely takes a bit of practice but pays off once you get the hang of it. It took me multiple tries in front of the mirror before I finally got it to work properly.

As you can see in the picture above, there is quite a difference between my before and after shots. My eyelashes are long, but they become even more pronounced and defined.

So, what did I think about it? I think that there are definite pros and cons to this product.

  • The lash definition is unreal. I have never seen a mascara that didn’t leave my eyelashes at all clumpy.
  • Insane volume. It worked so well on the few occasions where I have gone out with friends or dressed up for Halloween.
  • The price. Since it’s a Covergirl product, it’s not painful for my wallet. (Which any person who wears makeup can appreciate.)

  • Insane volume also needs to be a con in my book. I generally go for a more understated look for work, and having crazy voluminous lashes doesn’t usually fit in with that. I also already have long, dark lashes, so wearing this every day is a bit much.

If you’re a person who loves having crazy volume and definition for your lashes, then I would definitely recommend this. I also would recommend this if you are a person who likes to dress up and add an extra little bit of va-va-voom to your eyes when you do without needing to play with falsies and eye glue.

Secret Clear Gel

It’s time for another Bzz Report! I’ve had a fair bit of luck in getting chosen for some great bzz campaigns lately through the website Bzzagent, which is a website that hooks up consumers up with products to try for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This time around I have a review on Secret Clear Gel Scent Expressions in Cocoa Butter Kiss.

This is a gel deodorant with a fast drying water-based formula designed to not leave white marks on your clothes while delivering great 48-hour protection. All it takes is one click and two swipes. Does it live up to the hype? Keep reading to find out.

August was a swelteringly hot and humid month in my corner of the world. So it obviously makes perfect sense (note: sarcasm) that I’d pick it to pack up and move apartments. Between packing, cleaning, more cleaning, moving and unpacking, I definitely put this deodorant/antiperspirant through its’ paces. I especially noticed its absence when I misplaced it for a few days in the packing. (I definitely learned to always make sure you know where you deodorant is… especially when it’s over 30 C and 100% humidity.)

First things first, aside from price, the smell of the deodorant is the most important factor for me. If I’m going to be wearing it, it has to be a scent that I like. I found this one to have a slight sweet smell, but it wasn’t overwhelming. In fact, I’ve already picked up another one since I liked it so much. It sort of reminded me a little bit of vanilla, but more toned down.

One of the major claims for this deodorant is that it doesn’t leave white marks. In my experience, this is true. I have quite a few dark colored tank tops and t-shirts that weren’t left with that dreaded white marks on the underarms. I even successfully wore dark colored dresses that needed to be pulled over my head without a white mark anywhere. (Such a small success, but oh so important). I think the fact that you don’t end up with your deodorant stuck on everything and showing is a definite high point.

Finally, I was fairly impressed by how well this deodorant/antiperspirant worked. While it didn’t stop sweat entirely in its tracks given the heat/humidity, I was definitely less sweaty with this stick than I was with other varieties. I also found that I didn’t need to reapply mid-way through the day, even in spite of the weather.

I definitely recommend this one. It works great, smells nice and won’t stain your clothes. What more could you ask for in a deodorant/antiperspirant?

Have you tried it? Let me know!

Vidal Sassoon London Luxe

As a Bzzagent member, I often get products to try out for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. This time around, I received Vidal Sassoon London Luxe hair dye in Midnight Blue Muse. The day I finally dyed my hair was completely on a whim and was done in procrastination for other things. But, I’m so happy I did.

This dye is formulated to last up to 8 weeks with salon quality color. This kit has three steps, two of which you mix together to create the color and a third, deep conditioning treatment which is also water resistant. The two steps that are mixed together are the VS Precision Mix developer creme and the VS Precision Mix Developer Bottle. It wasn’t difficult to mix the two and mix them.

It came with well fitting gloves (I have small hands) and the packages were numbered by the order they needed to be used.

I was really surprised that the cream like formula didn’t smell. I remember from dyeing adventures years ago that it felt like my nose was being invaded by the high smelling formulas. This one doesn’t make your nose want to jump off your face. It actually didn’t smell hardly at all.

Since I was applying this on my own, I was really glad to see a cream formula versus a liquidy formula. The cream made it so much easier to ensure an adequate coverage without needing to fear that  I missed a spot because it was really simple to work through my hair. (Which is rather thick, by the way.) I found that the formula was great in saturating my hair. I’ve used dyes in the past where two bottles were needed simply to have enough, but that was not a worry this time.  I also got some on my skin since I’m a klutz, but it was very easy to remove. (For which I am thankful, because I didn’t want to go around being speckled.)

When I finally had my hair dry after my dye experience, I was blown away by how well it matched the colors on the box. My hair can be finicky, so I was expecting it to be a bit darker, but I was not prepared for how well the blueish tones stood out. It made me feel very adventurous since my hair is usually rather plan colored.

From left to right: Before, right after coloring, one month in.

One thing that completely blows me away is the staying power of the dye. Granted, I am not one of those daily shampoo people because if I were, my hair would be a frizzy halo around my head instead of a semi manageable mop. As you can seen from the image above, my hair was a darker brown to start. Right after dyeing, it was a vibrant blueish black. A month later (and many shampoos, swims and days in the sun), my hair is a more muted black. In the light, I can still pick up the blueish tones, but they are rather hard to photograph.

I would definitely recommend trying out this brand if you are partial to box dyes. I’ve had nothing but a good experience with it.  Next time I dye my hair, I hope to branch out to see what else this line offers.

Have you tried this dye? What did you think? Let me know!

Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Rejuventating Collection

As a member of Bzzagent, I get to try new products from time to time, for FREE. This time around, I have been using the new Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Rejuventating Collection. These products contain Turkish fig and Indian cassia to help dry hair return to its natural radiance.

My Bzzkit contained a Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Rejuvenating Starter Kit, complete with Turkish Fig Shampoo (100mL), Conditioner (100 mL) and Oil Elixir Treatment (85 mL). There were also a few coupons that can be used at Loblaws that I have passed on to some friends.

This products comes with some pretty great claims. It is supposed to have a 60% reduction in hair breakage and the 90% increase in protection from future damage. I would love to have less breakage. That’s an issue for me.  I have been using these products for over a month now. I am surprised at how long they last, but seeing as I don’t wash my hair every day, it sort of makes sense.

Rejuvenating Shampoo:

I love the scent of this shampoo! I find that it lathers up nicely. It also leaves my hair nice and clean. I found that a small quarter sized amount in the middle of palm is more than enough for my thick hair (which is past my shoulders).

Rejuvenating Conditioner:

I actually don’t usually use conditioner. I usually opt for a leave in treatment of some sort. That being said, I found that using all three products together have made my hair quite happy. This also smells delicious!

Oil Elixir:

This is my favorite product out of the trio! I find it is really taming my frizzies. I find that it doesn’t weigh my hair down and really adds extra moisture to my hair. With the weather changing, my hair likes to freak out. Which means ALL OF THE FRIZZ and it can get dry.

This is the second BZZCampaign that I have participated in and I am excited to share it all with you. Since the beginning of February, I have been trying the Gillette Venus Swirl razor and Venus Shave Gel Violet Swirl with Touch of Olay®.

For those of you that don’t know, BZZAgent is a site where you can try products for free (if you get invited to the campaign) in exchange for your honest review. Love the product? Great! Not a fan? Still good! They are just looking for real people to try out these products. Most of the time, hashtags like #GotItFree or #Sponsored appear with these campaigns. Since this is a review, there will be fewer pictures and more text compared to a lot of my posts.

Gillette Venus Swirl razor

First impression of the product:

My intial impression was that this bright purple razor with the swivelly head wouldn’t be that much different than any other razor touting the new and improved benefits for shaving. Yes, the head pivotted quite a bit, but I didn’t see how that would make that much of a difference. I also saw that it had multiple blades and a softer strip around the outside. Overall, I loved that it’s purple.

Venus Shave Gel Violet Swirl with Touch of Olay®

First impression of the product:

When I realized that this was a purple gel, it made me happy. It’s a bit more exciting than slathering plain old white or clear shave gel on your legs. I also picked up on the smell right away once I put some of the product into my hand. It smelled… purple? I have no idea what that smell is but I like it. Also, given on how thick this shave gel lathered up to be, I also thought it may be moisturizing, but I wasn’t really sure.

Now, here comes a little bit of TMI (too much information). You’ve been forewarned.

It’s winter. And it’s been cold. And I am beyond sick of snow. All of which means that shaving my legs is the absolute last thing on my to do list. Adding extra winter warmth and all of that jazz. So when I did try out these products for the first time, my legs were a bit yeti-esque, or very hairy. And unlike my fair haired breathren, it’s noticeable. So, keeping all of this in mind, I was a bit hesitant of how these products would perform and if I’d need to go over my legs more than once.

I was (and still am) pleasantly surprised with this razor. I managed to get around all of my sensitive areas (like the back of my heel– man, that bleeds when I nick it) with no damage… and I was able to do the job in one go. My legs felt smooth and hair free. They were also surprisingly smooth for someone who regularly forgets to moisturize my legs, but that is likely due to the olay in the shaving cream.

Before I give my verdict on these products, here are a few pros and cons.

  • It’s pretty
  • It handles curves well (razor)
  • I like the smell (shaving cream)
  • It made my legs smooth

  • Price for refills/ intial purchase (razor)

Would I recommend this product?

Keeping in mind that I’m a person who isn’t brand loyal in terms of razors or shaving cream and that I usually buy whatever is cheapest or easiest, I like this products.

I think that this razor would be fantastic for the summer when I actually let people see my legs and care somewhat about how hairy they may be. If you’re looking for  a product that doesn’t leave your legs with nicks, this works quite well. But, keep in mind that if you want a good razor, you generally need to spend more than 5$ to get that.

As for the shaving cream, amusement factor aside, I think it’s fairly run of the mill in terms of shave gel. I generally use soap from one of my beauty boxes or conditioner that I don’t like on my head instead. That being said, if I came across this product on sale or reasonably priced, I would happily pick it up.

Secret Outlast Clear Gel

Disclaimer: I received this product as a part of a campaign with BzzAgent in exchange for my honest review.

The Product: Secret clear gel in Ooh-la-la Lavender

It is a clear gel deordorant/ antiperspirant that is said to last up to 48 hours, not leave behind white marks or show up since it goes on clear. One twist of the dial on the bottom per underarm is enough for all-day protection and that it will stop bad odors before they start. (source) Also, some additional information that I learned as a part of this product campaign is that it is due to the pH levels that this product can work for long periods of time and that it is a water-based product.

My initial impression:

I really like the smell. I love lavender. It’s just one of those smells that I don’t get tired of.  That being said, I find it a bit weird how cold the gel is. Since I’ve never used gel deodorant sticks before, this is sort of a new experience for me. Two days in and I can say that it does the job it’s supposed to. Which is, to make it so I sweat less. I say sweat less because I sweat a lot. I’ve never met a product that can stop me from sweating. But this product does do a good job of lessening that grossness.

After using it for one week:

I’ve gotten used to the coldness of the gel when I put it on in the morning. I am careful to only put it up one click per underarm, otherwise I end up with too much. It’s still doing the job it’s supposed to– that is to reduce the amount of sweat and not keep me from smelling bad. So, for that, this product is a winner. I haven’t noticed it rubbing off onto any of my clothing either, which was one of the ideas behind this type of product.

It’s a good product, but I will honestly say that so long as a product works, I don’t really care what type it is or what brand. I’m also easily swayed by what is on sale, or if I have a coupon. If you like this type of scent, or product, I definitely recommend that you check it out.
